Say Goodbye to that Unwanted Hair!

copeland_or_procedure_female_5717Who wants to spend extra time shaving and/or waxing when all you want to do is wear shorts and a bathing suit worry free?  Body hair can be a problem especially during the summer. Waxing and shaving is not only a pain, especially when you want to wear a bathing suit and shorts on the hot summer days but can result in skin discoloration and ingrown hairs. If you are tired of ingrown hairs and irritation from waxing and shaving, laser hair removal offers freedom from unwanted body hair. Now popular with both men and women, it is best suited for darker hair but new advances even allow reduction in gray or blonde hair. It is most commonly performed on the upper lip and chin, neck, chest, underarms, back, bikini line, and legs but can also be formed on the arms and feet as well. Dr. Copeland uses a variety of FDA approved lasers, such as the Light Sheer® laser, for permanent hair removal for all skin types. Patients are so pleased with the results and invariably tell me they wish they had done it sooner – especially considering the time and money they have spent over the years on temporary fixes.

And here’s a tip from Dr. Copeland on shaving and waxing: use AHA Cream to exfoliate the area before hair removal to help prevent ingrown hairs. Feel comfortable in your clothes this summer without worrying about shaving and waxing!

I’ve been talking a lot about ways to get your body ready for the summer.    Body hair can be a problem especially during the summer.   Waxing and shaving is not only a bother, especially when you want to wear a bathing suit and shorts on the hot summer days but can result in skin discoloration and ingrown hairs.  Did you know that  laser hair removal  not only offers permanent freedom from unwanted body hair, but also can help eliminate ingrown hairs. Popular with both men and women, it is best suited for darker hair but new advances even allow reduction in gray or blonde hair. Commonly performed on the upper lip, chin, chest, underarms, back, abdomen, bikini line, and legs,  I use a variety of FDA approved lasers, such as the Light Sheer® laser, for permanent hair removal for all skin types. The lowdown on laser hair removal

Am I a candidate for laser hair removal? Many patients believe that lasers are ineffective on light hair. Lasers are programmed to target melanin (the pigment that makes hair dark) and effectively disable the growth potential of the hair follicle. Laser hair removal does seem to work best on those with a contrast between their skin and hair color, so light skinned, dark haired patients enjoy the best results. This does not mean that anyone with dark skin tones and dark hair or light skin and light hair are not candidates. Fortunately the advancement in technology has allowed lasers to treat all skin and hair tones, including light haired patients, effectively. Because the lasers do target pigment, often a light-haired patient can apply a melanin-based product to allow the laser to target the hair follicle more readily.

It’s important to ask how many laser treatments will be needed for a desirable result. Also, there is often confusion about laser vs. electrolysis. Electolysis removes one hair at a time and is likely to cause irritation. Laser treatments are much more effective when applied correctly – all lasers are not created equally, though, so check with your provider.

Laser hair removal

If you are tired of ingrown hairs and irritation from waxing and shaving, laser hair removal offers freedom from unwanted body hair. Now popular with both men and women, it is best suited for darker hair but new advances even allow reduction in gray or blonde hair. Commonly performed on the face, upper lip, neck, chest, around the areola, underarms, back, abdomen, bikini line, and legs, it cannot be used on the eyes. Dr. Copeland uses a variety of FDA approved lasers, such as the Light Sheer® laser, for permanent hair removal for all skin types. Patients are so pleased with the results and invariably tell me they wish they had done it sooner – especially considering the time and money they have spent over the years on temporary fixes.
