Go Ahead, Show Some (Healthy) Skin for New Year’s Eve

You have your party dress, your new pumps, and your jewelry all ready for New Year’s Eve – but what about your skin? The holiday season can leave your skin looking dull and tired. For quick results before the big night, Dr. Michelle Copeland Skin Care offers safe and effective products for a healthy glowing complexion.

If you’re going to show skin at your New Year’s Eve soiree, a sun-kissed glow is a must. For best results, first exfoliate with AHA cream and then apply the Sunless Tanning Bronzer. The luxurious AHA smoothing cream contains alpha hydroxy acid to remove dead cells and excess keratin while aloe and lipoic acid soothe and nourish your skin. The bronzer is the only sunless tanning product with SPF-15, antioxidants and vitamins to leave your skin smooth and supple. You can achieve radiant skin within an hour that will last about a week.

For a flawless complexion, try my foundation and under eye concealer – both products cover and help treat the skin in one step. These products contain my breakthrough Rewind Formula, a powerful blend of anti-aging ingredients. My Ageless Skin Foundation is lightweight coverage filled with powerful age-defying ingredients and SPF-15 protection to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The Ageless Skin Under Eye Concealer not only covers up dark circles but also helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and puffiness around the eyes. These last minute products will have you beautiful and glowing in time for your New Year’s Eve celebration.

Quick Fixes for a New Year’s Glow!

During this holiday season, there are two things we can all count on – parties and stress that can wreak havoc on your skin. But here are some quick fixes for ringing in the New Year with a glow.

As always, hydration is key. It’s typical to become dehydrated during the holiday season if you are attending parties where you’re exposed to dry air, smoke and any spirits you may enjoy. Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeinated beverages. Use moisturizer frequently and remember to first cleanse, tone, and exfoliate – now is not the time to skip any steps. A good regimen to follow is to use my Daily Cleanser, Daily Toner followed by AHA Face Cream and Daily Moisturizer.  Caring for eyes and lips is crucial to look your best during the holidays. Sleep deprivation and stress can lead to dark circles and puffiness around the eyes. There are many fine topical products with ingredients like argireline and biopeptide that help reduce wrinkles and promote firming of these sensitive areas. My three holiday season must-haves contain these ingredients and are formulated to show improvement immediately with long-lasting results when used on a regular and frequent basis: REWIND Eye Formula, Ageless Skin Undereye Concealer, and Lip Enhancer.

For quick and effective in-office fixes that can be done even during your lunchtime, Botox injections, fillers, microdermabrasion , non-ablative laser sessions  work great to help smooth and tighten areas that are wrinkled or sagged. Thermage® (the “non-surgical” facelift that requires no downtime) or Threadlift to rid your face of sagging skin, are feasible even for those with heavy schedules. I perform these treatments many times a week for people who are in the public eye and have no downtime, and they are ideal for quickly getting that clear, glowing holiday complexion!

FDA asks medical-device makers to seek more women for clinical trials.

The Food and Drug Administration issued draft guidelines urging medical-device makers to “address a ‘historic underrepresentation’ of women in clinical studies by improving the quality of gender-specific data they collect.” The FDA draft guidelines issued on Friday noted that “certain devices trigger different responses in women than in men due to factors such as genetics, hormones, body size and diet.” For that reason, “the guidelines call on companies ‘to enroll representative proportions of both women and men in their device studies.’”

New Rosacea Rescue Kits to help prevent holiday flare-ups!

The holiday season often aggravates common skin conditions like rosacea. Stress, cold weather, and occasional alcohol consumption  are hallmarks of the season and also triggers for rosacea, an inflammatory skin disease often mistaken for adult acne. Rosacea typically affects fair-skinned people between the ages of 30 and 60. Fourteen million Americans suffer from rosacea, making it one of the most common skin diseases.

In most people, the red bumps of rosacea come and go during periodic flare-ups; left untreated, the condition tends to get steadily worse over time. Treatment typically involves improving the general health of the skin and thus helping it better withstand progression.

That’s why it’s important to maintain a healthy skin routine when the skin is under stress, using my new Rosacea Rescue Kit to get your skin in balance and address redness and rough skin.

Eyelid surgery can be more than cosmetic

Eyelid surgery to repair droopy or sagging skin around the eyes, has become one of my most popular cosmetic procedures – but now a new study shows that it can improve more than looks. The study concludes that “eyelifts” aka upper blepharoplasty and blepharoptosis repair can improve vision as well as appearance, providing significant improvement in vision, peripheral vision and quality-of-life activities.

Eyelid surgery has also become less invasive using a technique that involves making a tiny incision inside the lower lid of the eye. The tissue heals so quickly that there’s no need for stitches and hence, no scarring. For lines and wrinkles, Rewind Eye Cream can reduce some lines and wrinkles around the eyes almost immediately, even without surgery.

Tanning bed danger

Most of us know that tanning beds are bad for you, but it’s even worse than you might have thought, according to a new study from Yale. People who used indoor tanning beds are at a significantly higher risk of developing basal cell carcinoma (BCC) before the age of 40 than people who never used indoor tanning beds, a new study by Yale Cancer Center researchers has found. BCC is an extremely common type of skin cancer, more frequent than all other cancers combined.

Led by researchers from the Yale School of Public Health, the research team determined that young people who had tanned indoors had a 69 percent increased risk of early-onset BCC. The association was strongest among women and the risk increased with years of indoor tanning use.

The only safe way to tan is  to use good bronzer – apply after exfoliating and have a natural glow thin a few hours.

Treating adult acne

Adults can suffer from outbreaks of acne, even if they never had problems with acne as teenagers. Bacteria is one cause, so it important to cleanse thoroughly without drying out your skin so it’s well balanced. My Acne Essentials Kit  includes Daily Cleanser, Daily Normalizing Toner and Advanced Acne Formula helps clear up breakouts and reduce the formation of  new ones. My Pigment Formula effectively helps reduce acne scarring and dark spots. And, everyone should have Blemish Corrector handy in cases of an emergency.   It soothes, treats and protects that dreaded blemish.   Here are before and after pictures of a recent 39 year old patient after just two weeks on my acne regimen:
