SNL Skit- “Big Booty”

nicki-minaj-two-faced-suit

“ Big booty”  got its share of laughs on  Saturday Night Live this weekend.   The Jennifer Lopez butt was the butt most requested by women who want buttock resculpturing, but now Nicki Minaj  takes “Big Booty” to a whole new level!

Did you know that  you too can have a “Big Booty”.  Buttock enhancment using  your own fat taken from another part of your body  can now be performed giving you a bigger, curvier shape. You also get the benefit of reducing another area of your body while you enhance your butt, all without implants, which can be painful. The technique is called autologous fat transfers and autologous simply means “your own.” And who doesn’t have a little fat to spare? It’s safe because it came from you, so you can’t have a reaction to it. The procedure is quick and can be performed  as an outpatient so you’re back on the dance floor in no time!

While fat grafting can  increase the size and improve the shape of your butt, a sagging butt can also be improved with  Thermage®, a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that helps smooth, tighten, lift and contour the buttocks. Fast and easy, you can even come in during your lunch break and return to work immediately after the procedure.

Thermage® uses radiofrequency technology to heat the deep, collagen rich layers of your skin. The heat helps tighten existing collagen and stimulate the formation of new collagen, which reduces sagging, improves contour and helps eliminate the appearance of cellulite.

What’s Hot in Plastic Surgery

gma

We didn’t have to watch Good Morning America to know what is hot in plastic surgery.    New techniques to reduce fat whether with liposuction or non surgical Zerona  lead the list, of course, but did you know that breast Augmentation was the #1 surgery performed in the US this year.

We women are incredibly aware of our breast appearance — maybe even more than men are. Breasts are sexual and sensual, a big part of what makes us women, and they can dictate our sense of attractiveness and desirability (for better or worse). Many women embrace breast augmentation because it carries little risk of complication and because an implant can be inserted through a tiny incision and is a quick, nearly scarless operation. There are various factors regarding how you want your breasts to look and feel, but if you and your doctor have a good, open line of communication, you shouldn’t need to go back and forth on your decision.

It is now possible for you to enlarge your breasts without resorting to implants! Specially prepared fat taken from another part of the body, such as the stomach or hips, is placed under the breast tissue to provide increased breast size without the need for artificial implants. The technique is called autologous fat transfers and autologous simply means “your own.” And who doesn’t have a little fat to spare?

Breast augmentation surgery is routinely performed in a surgeon’s office. You will be given a local anesthetic and twilight sedation during the length of the surgery, which is typically one to two hours. You will feel relaxed but not too groggy during recovery. When you wake up, you’ll probably feel as if your breasts are pushed up to your chin. Part of this is imaginary, but as to the part that is real, don’t panic, the swelling will usually go down in about two weeks. It is also possible that you will have some pain postoperatively, but this should get better within a few days.

Dr. Copeland Featured in In With Skin

covericon

Dr. Copeland was featured in In With Skin, here is just a little bit of an excerpt…

“We have all heard the many myths about the cause of acne- too much chocolate, greasy foods, dairy and hormone fluctuations.  Of course, what you eat affects the health of your body, and it’s important to have a balanced diet, full of green leafy vegetables, fresh fruit, lean meat and plenty of water to keep organs functioning properly. But none of those factors are going to cause acne to develop, or to cease.”

Dealing With Sweaty Situations

excessive-sweating

Are you embarrassed by wet armpits, clammy hands and feet?  Well you are not alone.  Hyperhidrosis,  a condition where you produce much more perspiration than you  need to keep your body cool, affects more than a million people in the US alone Yesterday Discovery Health spoke about ways to stop excessive underarm sweating. We all sweat – but when heavy sweating causes embarrassment and changes the way you live your life, it may be time for action. Fortunately, this is a situation we can now treat effectively with BOTOX®.

My patients often suffer from difficulty in social situations and tell me that excessive sweating significantly interferes with their daily activities. A treatment made famous for fighting wrinkles can also provide relief for this uncomfortable condition – BOTOX®.  BOTOX® injections block the chemical signals sent from the nerves that control sweating, an essentially safe solution for excessive perspiration. The substance relaxes muscles associated with the sweat glands – a positive effect on a patient’s quality of life.

Does Your Skin Cream Protect Against UV Light?

istock_woman-laying-in-sun-small1

MSNBC recently published results of a new study that tested daily skin creams claiming to protect against UV rays. The majority of products advertised UV-B protection, when in fact UV-A protection is equally as important. From the 29 products claiming to protect against UV-A rays, only 6 contained proper ingredients for protection.

You should know that you can use my  SPF-40 Lotion Mist Sun Block with confidence. This light weight, PABA free formula contains clear zinc oxide that protects against both UV-A (that cause sun damage) and UV-B (that causes visible sunburn) rays. Use this mist daily knowing that you are getting the proper  sun  block protection and anti-oxidants to help repair your skin

Protecting your lips  from the sun is also very important. Use  Dr Michelle Copeland  Lip Protector with SPF-15  with a  powerful blend of antioxidants to prevent chapping, cracking and dryness while  protecting your lips  from the harsh ultraviolet rays.

And  those of you that love the tanned look, I created my Sunless Tanning Bronzer that offers a beautiful, natural-looking and safe tan year around without exposing your skin to the harsh sun. It is the only sunless tanning product with SPF-15, antioxidants and vitamins to leave your skin smooth and supple. Your sunless radiance works within an hour and lasts all week.

Does Prettier = Smarter?

I discussed a recent survey that suggests that beautiful people may have the genetic edge in intelligence with Jodi Applegate on the WPIX News at Ten. Although the study sampled a large group, there are flaws that may affect the outcome – for example – teachers were asked to rate the looks of students, but they may be biased by appreciation for the smarter students…and so on. If there is one thing I am sure of, however, after many years of helping people achieve their best looks, is that confidence is connected to appearance. When my patients feel they look their best, they are more likely to let their intelligence shine.

Food For the Brain

healthy-grocery-300x204Is your New Year’s resolution to eat better and follow a diet plan? An article in yesterday’s New York Time’s discussed the benefits of the Mediterranean diet as beneficial not just for your waistline, but also your brain. The Mediterranean diet is loaded with vegetables, fish and olive oil, and moderate amounts of wine. A new study suggests following this regimen can help slow down metal decline that occurs with age.

So stock up on  the right foods to  slow aging mentally and improve your skin’s health as well.  I’m sure you already know the kinds of food that will make you feel healthy and upbeat, and you’re aware of the things you shouldn’t be putting in your mouth. You are what you eat, as the saying goes. Items that you should fill your grocery cart with are fruit: berries, grapefruit, grapes, and oranges- all contain antioxidants, vitamin C, and phytochemicals that may reduce the incidence of chronic disease. Green leafy vegetables: broccoli, brussel sprouts, and spinach- they’re rich in fiber, vitamin A, calcium, and antioxidants. Herbs and spices: cumin, rosemary, thyme- there’s no reason your food has to be bland. These three herbs also pack high levels of antioxidants and give a kick to entrees and side dishes. Meat: lean proteins, such as chicken (without the skin) and fish, provide protein without high amounts of cholesterol. They’re also low in fat. Due to risk of mercury overload, I don’t recommend eating fish more than twice a week.

Following a  healthy balanced diet will not only slow your aging cognitively, but your physical appearance as well, and who doesn’t want to have a radiant glow. You can read more tips on beautiful skin in my book The Beautiful Skin Workout.

Avoid Dangerous Shortcuts in Cosmetic Procedures

untitled

An article in today’s MSNBC discussed the influx of bargain plastic surgery procedures using local anesthesia alone. A directory of doctors offering “Awake Procedures” can be found online where prospective candidates are turning to in order to save anesthesia costs. But BUYER BEWARE. Because liposuction is so quick and offers instant results, lots of non-plastic surgeons are performing it. Although the procedure seems easy, it is surgery. Many of these new practitioners aren’t even trained M.D.s and are shockingly unprepared to deal with complications should they arise.

Furthermore, many of the folks who just hang out a liposuction shingle, be it a spa, health club, or private office, are practicing in terribly unsanitary conditions, without masks, gloves, lab coat, or even a dedicated operating room. For your own safety, you must insist that your surgeon perform in a licensed operating room. In Southern California alone, 40% of liposuction practitioners had no prior training in the procedure before opening their practice.

So what should you look for? You should expect your doctor to be more than just aware of, but positively fluent in, such recent and dramatic advances. Above all, your doctor should be board-certified in plastic surgery. Will your doctor be able to handle complications during surgery or the healing process, should any arise? A board-certified plastic surgeon has had years of training in the handling and sculpting of skin tissue and its healing, and may be the doctor best equipped to handle the unexpected. You also want to make sure you’re having surgery at an accredited surgical facility.
